Evening,


At times I never know what I’m going to chance upon; from Inverugie House in Scotland to Good Hope Estate in Saint George and Saint David in Grenada. Only about 4,400 hundred miles; 7,100 kilometers… Quite a distance to transact a sale in 1828. Definitely no PayPal. It is amazing what I am learning in this search for the genealogy and ancestry of my ggg-grandfather James Smith.

The next Record of my Transcription Project appears to be in two parts. The first part, pages 575, 576, and 577 from the Grenada Registers of Records, 1825-1834 (v. H5-O5) and downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563380]. I believe this Record includes ggg-grandfather James Smith and a transaction document to purchase Good Hope Estate situated in the Parishes of Saint George and Saint David.

Entered 26 July 1828

This Indenture made the twenty first day of July in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight Between
William Stuart of Inverugie in Scotland Esquire of the one part

and

And James Smith of the Island of Grenada Carpenter of the
other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of ten shillings
current money to the said William Stuart in hand paid at or before the
sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknow
ledged he the said William Stuart Hath granted bargained and sold
and by these presents Doth grant bargain and sell unto the said James
Smith his executors administrators and assigns All that tract piece or
parcel of land being part and parcel of certain lands commonly known
or described by the name of Good Hope Estate situate and being in the
parishes of Saint George and Saint David in the said Island of Grenada
containing Four acres more or less and abutted and bounded as follows that
is to say East by lands of Stuart and Wife and South West and North
by the public road or howsoever otherwise the same may be abutted bounded
known or described together with all and singular the ways paths paʃsages
waters watercourses trees plants shrubs hedges ditches fences drains rivers
profits commodities liberties privileges advantages hereditaments and appur-
tenancies to the said tract piece or parcel of land belonging or in any wise
appertaining or therewith enjoyed or deemed reputed taken or known as
part parcel or member thereof and the reversion and reversions remainder
and remainders rents issues and profits thereof with the appurtenances
To have and to hold the said tract piece or parcel of land hereditaments
and premises hereby bargained and sold with the appurtenances unto
the said James Smith his executors administrators and assigns from the
day of the date of these presents for and during and unto the full end and
term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be complete
and ended Yielding and Paying therefore at the end of the said term
one pepper corn if that by virtue of these presents and by force of the statute
made for transferring uses into poʃseʃsion the said James Smith may be
in the actual poʃseʃsion of the said premises hereby bargained and sold
and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and may
thereby be enabled to accept and take a grant and release of the _____
and of the reversion and inheritance thereof to him the said James
Smith his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use and
behoof for ever In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have
hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written
